L-1A Requirements
For executives and managers. Must have worked for the company abroad for at least 1 continuous year within the last 3 years.
L-1B Requirements
For employees with specialized knowledge of company products, services, or procedures. Same 1-year employment requirement applies.
Duration
L-1A: up to 7 years maximum. L-1B: up to 5 years maximum. Initial period of 3 years (1 year for new offices).
Blanket L Petitions
Large companies with significant U.S. operations may qualify for blanket L petitions, simplifying the process for multiple transfers.
Recent Policy Changes
Edakunni settlement ended (Jan 2025), meaning L-1 and L-2 applications may now be processed separately. New $250 Visa Integrity Fee for consular visa stamping. Third-country visa stamping largely restricted to country of nationality or residence.
